I was just about to go to bed when I happened to check the first page of Danbooru, saw this and was like “Must translate!” First thing I’ve tried to translate for fun in a while, I may be quite rusty. But I really love this artist (Nakatani)’s work!

Last night I dreamed that I was wandering around a shopping centre in my hometown on new year’s eve. For some reason lots of people were wearing red. I ended up in a nightclub that doesn’t exist in that place in real life and ran into my friends. I recall saying something along the lines of “Why didn’t I get the memo about all the girls in our group dying their hair pink...

Tonight I went out to dinner with my family. Just before leaving for the restaurant my mother told me we wouldn’t be having a bottle of wine with this meal. I felt a pain like  the first time I got told I was too old to have a kid’s meal. Do you know the feeling I mean, readers? Maybe I am an alcoholic after all…

I’m in my twenties, but sometimes something will happen that will make me feel like such an old lady. The other day I picked up a flash drive someone had dropped outside of University. Inspecting it, I found no form of identification on the outside, so thought maybe I should check if it had any files on it that would give me a clue as to its owner. When I discovered, though, that it...

Today I wrapped up my first paid translation job, woo! I must admit it felt strange to earn about as much money as I usually do being bored/lazy/abused all day at the art gallery or museums that are my usual haunts for something that barely felt like work and didn’t take much longer than four hours in total. Also good to use Japanese in a way that wasn’t related to school (or everyday...

When I was getting on the train this morning, I thought for a moment that someone had brought along a rice cooker! Then I looked more closely and realised it was a motorcycle helmet. Still, what was a person with a bike helmet doing on a train? You can’t take a motorbike on the train, so did they leave their bike behind? Or did they lose it and have to take the train instead? Or did they...

During a recent conversation in which I was recounting some light flirtation with a coworker, the friend to whom I was talking asked me what the coworker in question looked like. I replied “A bit like a horse, and also a bit like a frog. I mean that in a good way, though, she’s gorgeous.” Then earlier today when I was staring deeply into an attractive teacher’s eyes I found...

Is it odd to dream about one of your followers even though you’ve never spoken to them or met them in real life? And that even though your subconscious seems to have forgotten their name and what they look like you still know who they are? It seems kinda weird to me.

I bloody hate when fucking ignorant people use buggering swear words to try to instill some arsing passion into their bastardly statements in the whorish hope of making their scragging argument sound more pimholing valid.

I’m so sick of seeing people regurgitating other people’s ideas since they lack any original thoughts of their own or are guilt-tripped into circulating it because they’re afraid of being seen as opposing the viewpoints those quotes and pictures express. Reblog if you agree.

Below is a transcription of a presentation I had to give in class on Tuesday, for anyone who might be interested (why you would be is beyond me). Also, if there’s any potential employers out there, look - I can write fairly coherently about vaguely important topics! (For English speakers, there’s a dessert in Japan called “Purin,” which originally comes from “Custard...

Reason For Tears →
Today I have been mostly trying to translate this comic, Mari-Moko Namida no Riyuu, by Hime Haruka (yes, I am procrastinating against doing more serious work). I started ages back then got put off by the many tricky sound effects and expressions I understood but couldn’t think of good translations for. Hope someone enjoys this and thanks to the other translators who cleaned up my mistakes!

I had a dream last night that I had a girlfriend or wife who adopted a special diet. Then she stopped being on that diet and we had a picnic. In bed. In the cold light of day, this image is kinda きもい, but at the time it felt very romantic, I assure you!

I recently got thinking about the word “dust” (verb). It’s kinda strange that we use the same word to describe taking fine, powdery particles away from something (e.g. “dust those shelves with this cloth”) as we do to describe putting it on (e.g. “dust those doughnuts with icing sugar”). Are there any other words out there that have completely opposite...

Faith for the Transient Goddess →
Here’s a link to a doujin called Shinkou Wa Hakanaki Kami-sama No Tame Ni by an artist called Hitsujin. I only translated the first couple of pages, so this is more a recommendation link than a showing off one. So I recommend this to fans of the Moriya family. Or people who are interested in the idea of how faith effects gods. Or anyone who likes the idea of a strong woman having her body...

変態物語
I noticed during a lecture today that our class’s discussions usually eventually drift around to matters of sex, or are described using sexual analogies. This made me wonder, are all students and scholars just perverts at heart? Ah, but no, for it’s only in the Literature class that this happens. All literary types are perverts, then? Or is it simply a matter of literature being an art...

Recently I’ve been reading “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” and have been surprised and impressed by how slick and sophisticated the writing style is. Also, even though it’s all about the American Dream and whatnot, it’s not written in such a way that it sounds weird if you don’t read it in an American accent. In fact, I’d like to hear it read by Alan...

I had a dream last night that my parents moved away to a cottage by a cliff. Having finished helping them moving their stuff in I was doing some tai-chi in the garden. The wind was wild and the skies were grey, when out of the mists came a military gentleman in a vibrant red uniform, asking if we might spare some food for his regiment. Patriotically, I agreed and led him to the house. I never saw...

I’ve come to the conclusion that I much prefer Conspiracy Theorists to Jehovah’s Witnesses or other such religious zealots. When CTs try to tell one about problems they believe are going on secretly, at least they’re acting out of genuine concern for their fellow humans. Perhaps they’re a little misguided but there’s good feeling behind it. But surely, I hear you...

I realised last night or thereabouts that most computers have a “volume up” and a “volume down” button, or keys which can be used for this function. Or you can click on the volume control on your task-bar. Why don’t they have dials? And I don’t mean the crappy little apologetic dials that are half hidden inside some other part of the machine, I mean big raised...

Are there places that offer a kind of service that includes spa treatment, makeover and photoshooting? I’m sure they must exist. I feel like I’d like to go to one, if only I knew where one was. Although, to be honest, I’m only really interested in having someone else do my hair and makeup for me and ending up with some pictures of myself that I actually like. Spa treatment need...

Y’know that feeling when you’re in school/college/university and a person you have a slight crush on forgets their text book or something, so you share yours with them, and you don’t really notice what’s going on in the class but instead just enjoy sitting closer to them than usual? It’s kinda weird when that happens with a teacher, you’d think they’d do a...

At times I think the most interesting period of history to study would be late 20th/early 21st century. Lots of things might seem important to us when they happen, but end up having very little long-term significance. And vice-versa. I’d love to jump forward a couple of hundred years and see which events, people and trends remained, which faded away, and which bits future historians get...

Sometimes I wonder why birds migrate to warmer countries in winter but spiders just die. Admittedly the answer is probably “Because spiders can’t fly,” but I still think it would be wonderous (albiet terrifying) to see great crowds of spiders scurrying toward Africa, then stopping at the English Channel, maybe trying to buy a group ticket for a ferry to Cannes… I think...

Though I wasn’t planning to translate anything today, this was relatively simple, so here’s Namae no nai Sakuya by Tsuki Wani. At time of posting only the fifteen pages were uploaded, so if the rest appear later I might have a whack at them, too.

Another doujin I had a small part in translating. Although the language used is fairly simple and straightforward, it was surprisingly difficult to find appropriate expressions without deviating too far from the original meaning. Contains mild nudity.
